Family Camp is half-week church camp event held at Camp Widewater in Liberty Center Ohio in the summer. Imagine summer camp, except the whole family attends instead of just the kids. It includes 4 nights lodging & 10 meals prepared for you and served in the camp’s dining room.
It is a Christ-centered event where families can build relationships with another in a safe environment through interactive learning experiences, recreational activities, crafts, and fellowship times. There is a different theme for the camp each year. Some recent examples include: “Family: In God We Still Trust”, “Down on the Family Farm,” and “CHRISTmas in July: It all began with a family.”
Camp starts on a Wednesday evening with a meal, announcements, introductions, and usually ice cream.
Then there are 3 full days of programming and activities Thursday through Saturday. A typical day looks like:
8:00-9:00am: Buffet Breakfast
9:00-10:00am: Singing/Inter-generational Time – interactive worship time for all ages together
10:30-11:30am: Morning break-out groups – a time for kids to break into groups by age level, and adults to choose from a couple of different topical studies.
NOON-1:00pm: Family-style lunch
1:00-4:30pm: Activities to choose from such as canoeing, kayaking, naptime, swimming, crafts, archery, volleyball and more!
5:00-6:00pm: Family-style dinner
6:30-7:15pm: Different each day, activities such as kickball, family olympics, yard games, softball.
After 8:30:Fellowship time and some different activities each evening to choose from such as: campfire, story time for young kids, glow-in-the-dark-frisbee for K-4th grade, Romans and Christians game for 5th grade and up, barn activity for middle school and up, night swim for adults, table games and puzzles, euchre tournament.
Camp concludes on Sunday with breakfast from 8-9:30am, followed by closing worship and communion service at at 10:00am.
